Farewell to Videosyncratic: audio and video

Having been somewhat easily persuaded by @jazza_uk and @ihatemornings to skip the gym, I went along to the farewell gig tonight at Videosyncratic, Oxfords best indie video store that's sadly closing down, and despite the throngs had a great time and caught some fantastic bands performing acoustic sets.

One and a half songs by Richard Walters (before AudioBoo clammed up on my phone)

Videosyncratic Farewell Gig (Live) by Ute

Videosyncratic Farewell Gig (Live) by Stornoway

As I came straight from work, all I had was my iPhone, but made an attempt to capture a little of the ambience through lofi pictures and some brief audio recording (the quality isn't great - hope the artists don't mind - if so let me know and will remove). All pictures processed mainly on my phone, with audio recorded in audioBoo before I realised it had a 5 minute limit, and Apple's voice recorder, for which you can get longer recordings off and converted to mp3 using itunes sync.

All the bands I saw (with the exception of Ben Walker) were new to me, and I was without exception thoroughly impressed by all.
A few links to the ones I heard and could track down:

Ben Walker - http://www.myspace.com/benwalkercapedcrusader
Huck - http://www.myspace.com/huckmusic
Richard Walters - http://www.myspace.com/richardwalters
Ute - http://www.myspace.com/utetheband (kudos for incorporation of VHS tape and inclusion of TopGun VHS box as a percussion instrument!)
Stornoway - http://www.myspace.com/stornoway

Looking forward to picking up a few of their albums tomorrow if they are out.

It was great but sad to see the place so busy, with queues literally around the store and out of the door. It was a great place to rent DVDs and for me buy comics (for which there is no real replacement in Oxford) staffed by thoroughly helpful and nice people. A slightly sad but thoroughly enjoyable evening, with some top music.
